Read Matthew 22:2-14, Psalm 110                                    January 29
                                                       Nothing to Wear?
“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:9 NIV
Of all the lame excuses for not attending church having nothing to wear is perhaps the lamest of all.
Although there may be many churches where tradition and practice dictate that we be dressed up in for coming into the presence of the King, we also need to think about the hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees who were always dressed to the hilt in fine robes and trappings which did nothing to clean up their hearts.
There is a story about church members who welcomed a poorly dressed family to church one Sunday, and immediately went out and bought them nice clothes to wear when they came back.   When the family didn't return and they went out to check on them, they found that they looked so good they decided to go to a better and bigger church.
There is nothing humorous about this parable.  It is about God sending John the Baptist and Jesus to invite the children of Israel to the wonderful celebration of Gods New Covenant of Grace only to have them refuse the invitation.
There are some commentaries that teach that it was the custom of the day that the king holding the feast also provided suitable wedding garments for all attendees who might not have them and that the inappropriately attired guest who was thrown out had no excuse for not being properly clothed.
We need to understand that when we are clothed by faith with the robe of Christ's righteousness we are always royally dressed..
Father, May I never approve or disapprove of what others wear on their backs but always pray that they are wearing the righteousness of Christ  in their hearts.  In Jesus name, Amen

“In that day of battle, your people will serve you  willingly. Arrayed in
holy garments, your vigor will be renewed each day like the morning
dew.”
Psalm 110:3 NLT

"When the king entered and looked over the scene, he
spotted a man who wasn't properly dressed. He said to him, 'Friend, how dare you
come in here looking like that!' The man was speechless. “
